As seen from from Azienda Mossio Fratelli in Rodello. What a view! Bet its amazing in winter as the snow hits the Alps off in the distance.

Accerto!
One of our favorites (if not *the* favorite) from the recent Piemonte exploration has finally made its way to Sovereignty Wines‘ shelves thanks to our persistent pestering of their distributor. Well worth the wait!

This beauty pairs nicely with anything savory, spicy meats, cheeses, and hearty soups. Pester your local wine shop for it too, as it’ll be time well spent. A perfect exploration of Piemonte in a glass, and an approachable one–only $14 or so, and way less fussy than its aging-required pricey Barolo cousin. Barolo is the wine the Piemontese sell to make a living, but nebbiolo and dolcetto are what they drink themselves. You’ll see why!

Soave Olives
Delicious Sirmione
We stopped for lunch in Sirmione and had an elegant meal with fine Lugana selections to quaff with our seafood dishes. For me it was the local whitefish grilled with olive oil after this opener, a creamy tomato broth with pike ravioli. Delicious.
There’s so much more diversity in Italian food than people realize–it’s not all ragu dishes and pizza! Especially in the Veneto and Lake Region. Come check it out!
The Vines of Rodello
Pretty hard to beat. What a place! Take the time to get off the beaten path in Italy and you are *rewarded*. It’s not necessarily easy to get here, but we can certainly get you there, and you’ll be greeted with some pretty amazing hospitality.
Thanks go to our friends at Giribaldi.
Venezia: Castello At Night
One of our favorite things to do in Venice is walk around late at night when the cruise ship crowds are gone and the city is quiet; only the locals are milling around having a nightcap at the prosecco and spritz bars still open and mystery of the place is revealed.
It’s magic.

Massimo, il Chirugo! (Massimo the Surgeon!)
Our friend Massimo at Burano’s off-the-beaten-path but storied Trattoria da Romano never fails to impress with his craftsmanship tableside; one of the great things about Italy is the pride and professionalism undertaken by people in all walks of life, particularly in regard to the art that is food preparation and presentation.
Massimo is a fine example. Hungry? We are!
Azienda Agricola Rivetto in Sinio
What a magical day; we got to meet Enrico Rivetto himself and interview his staff about what makes their azienda special; the organic artisanal approach, the reverence for the old ways of doing things, and the focus on epitomizing the best of what nebbiolo and barbera can do makes for a tasting you won’t soon forget. We also got to try their nascetta and a sparkling white they named Kaskal which has yet to hit the market; our tasting guide Rita suggested we might well have been the first Americans to taste it.
A fantastic experience for which we cannot thank Enrico et al enough for.
