One of our favorite restaurants in Venice shared my photo of their fabulous linguine alle seppie.  Delicious…and not a bad shot if I say so myself. 🙂

The sun setting behind the clouds as the vaporetto takes us past Mazzorbo, a beautiful little island next to Burano in the Venetian lagoon that we can’t wait to explore more. Â It’s a tired word, yes, but the only one that works for this view to our minds is “heavenly.” Â See you there! Â And definitely click to enlarge to really appreciate.
Masters at work. Â Come watch them with us!
Via our foodie friends at Venice Bites:
That’s pretty cool–navigating a barge around those old, narrow canals and low hanging bridges. Â Everything you see in Venice’s quiet neighborhood shops and restaurants arrives in this manner; deliveries require these guys and their unique boat maneuvering skill sets.
I’ll bet none of these guys are getting rich, but none of them would give up what they do for a living either. Â One of the more unique jobs in the world.
I was kicking myself for not having lugged the tripod with me to Burano this day; I would have shot these with HDR for a more dramatic contrast with the Venice buildings, campanile, and rooflines that sit under this dramatic sunset. Â But in retrospect that’s a “happy accident”, as the slight silhouetting I think emphasizes the romantic, mysterious qualities of Venice at night and in the evening.
These were shot at f5.6, 1/800th, between 260mm and 300mm depending. Â Any time you can watch the sunset on Burano, you know it’s good to be alive.

We agree with OG Venice: Â this is mesmerizing to watch. Â Even more so in person!
Thinking about an Italy excursion? This is as strong as we’ve seen the dollar in the last five years. Your dollars will go far toward that bottle of Barolo, that plate of risotto, that platter of antipasti, that assortment of cicchetti, and that hotel stay. Get there now!
Thoughts, in no particular order:
My Italy photographs are pretty good for an average joe with a Nikon. Â These are orders of magnitude better. Â Much to learn!
Drones allow some amazing video work. Â They’re dangerous to general aviation, but man they’re great when used responsibly.
At the end there’s a listing of the locations used; great for those of us who want to spend a lifetime tracking them down. Â Many mental notes already made for new places to explore!
